As reported on by DNAinfo’s Nicholas Rizzi, Triangle Equities‘ Lighthouse Point Development was the recipient of one of 10 Annual Awards given by the Public Design Commission this week. The project will transform a former base for the U.S. Coast Guard into a 110-unit residential building, including a 160-room hotel, along with space for retail and office use.

ST. GEORGE — The $200 million Lighthouse Point development received a design award by the city on Tuesday, the only project in Staten Island to be given one.
The project was one of 10 across the city to receive the Public Design Commission’s Annual Awards because it “successfully preserves the character of the existing 19th-century U.S. Lighthouse Depot buildings within the contemporary development,” according to the award’s website.
“We’re thrilled Lighthouse Point is among the winners of this year’s Awards for Excellence in Design,” said Lester Petracca, president of developer Triangle Equities.
“In addition to its incredible design, we believe that Lighthouse Point will benefit local businesses, spur capital investment in the area and help to bring about a new future for downtown Staten Island.”
The project will turn a former U.S. Coast Guard base into a 110-unit residential building with retail and office space and a 160-room hotel, Triangle Equities said.
Plans call for 20 percent of the units to be set aside for affordable housing and retail space dedicated for a grocery store and restaurant. The developers also released new renderings of the project this week.
Construction on the project was originally slated to start this summer, but developers pushed it back to the fall and expect it to be finished by 2019. Plans call to refurbish and repurpose four historic buildings, a wall and underground vaults on the site, Triangle Equities said.
The project, which Triangle Equities won permission to build in 2006, is one of several large developments headed to the North Shore of Staten Island’s waterfront, along with the New York Wheel and Empire Outlets.
