God’s Love We Deliver, a New York-based not-for-profit organization, prepares and delivers nutritious, high-quality meals to people who, because of illness, are unable to provide or prepare meals for themselves.

As Fox 5’s Ashley Bellman reports in a beautiful and moving video segment, God’s Love also works to ensure that the birthdays of the men, women, and children the group serves never go forgotten.

As Ms. Bellman shows in her piece, Chuck Pierkararski, more commonly known as “Chuck the Baker,” has been making and personalizing birthday cakes for God’s Love’s clients, their children, and their caregivers for more than 20 years.

Clients also receive birthday cards that are decorated by local school students. Sometimes a cake is the only birthday gift that God’s Love’s clients will receive.

God’s Love bakes and delivers over 2,000 birthday cakes for its clients each year.  Every cake is baked with fresh, wholesome ingredients; and Chuck the Baker puts  every client’s name on their cake.

As God’s Love celebrates its own  29th birthday as an organization, it’s working to expand its ability to ensure that every client’s birthday is special, always recognized and celebrated.

As Ms. Bellman reports, to do so, God’s Love has organized a virtual Birthday Bake Sale, inviting anyone  to sponsor one, two, or more birthday cakes for $10 each to ensure that thousands of New Yorkers living with serious illnesses aren’t forgotten on their birthday.   Donations are dedicated entirely to the rising costs of ingredients and delivery.

As part of her reporting, Ms. Bellman, accompanied by God’s Love staff and TMO’s Zoe Tobin visited the home of 84-year old Viola Davis, who suffers from breast cancer, to deliver one of Chuck’s famously personalized cakes. In the heartwarming video – which is well worth watching – Ms. Davis expressed her gratitude for the joy God’s Love provided: “It makes me feel good to know that there is someone out there that really cares for me.”
