The Marino Organization and NYU Incubators Announce Agreement to Offer Public Relations Services to Startups

TMO will support communications efforts of incubator companies at the NYU Polytechnic School of Engineering

NEW YORK – August 11, 2015 – The Marino Organization (TMO) – a full-service strategic communications firm – and the NYU Polytechnic School of Engineering today announced an agreement to provide public relations services for startups that are members of the school’s incubator program. The agreement will provide a new level of service for the entrepreneurs, including strategic counsel, press material editing, and message development.

“The startups housed at NYU’s incubator program are the innovators of the future, and we saw this partnership as an exciting opportunity to work with them at an early point in their development. After all, the start-ups of today are the Fortune 100 companies of tomorrow,” said John Marino, managing director and COO of The Marino Organization. “Through seminars and one-on-one meetings with these companies we’ll be able to help guide their communications efforts while challenging ourselves to develop strategies for products and ideas with which we may have not yet worked.”

“We are pleased that our incubator companies will now be able to draw upon the expertise and experience of TMO to develop their skills in marketing and communications,” said Kurt Beckervice dean for research, innovation and entrepreneurship at the NYU School of Engineering. “This agreement significantly expands the startup services and connections we provide in areas such as legal, real estate, business planning, research, and funding. We are confident that this agreement with TMO will help these young companies grow and prosper, in turn enhancing our incubators’ reputation for their extraordinarily high rate of success.”

In addition to seminars and office time with the startups, TMO will help prepare the companies to be “media-facing” once they graduate, including drafting and releasing a press release for each startup that successfully completes the typical two-year incubation program. It will also provide individualized exit media training.

NYU’s incubator program features three incubators strategically located across three tech hotspots – SoHo, DUMBO and Downtown Brooklyn’s MetroTech Center. The incubator initiative provides the tools necessary for startups to grow into successful, sustainable companies. The success of NYU’s incubator program is measured in terms of jobs created, capital raised, new products launched, and the number of students and faculty engaged. Since its inception in 2009, the program has helped its companies create more than 1,256 jobs, raised more than $145 million in capital, and had a local economic impact of $352 million.

NYU’s incubators open up their event spaces to provide the tech community a meeting place and networking forum and allow for cluster growth. The companies represented in the incubators align with NYU’s research strengths in urban systems, information, technology, and health and wellness. A total of 54 startups have graduated the program, which also includes partnerships with ADT, Cushman & Wakefield, Lowenstein Sandler LLP, National Grid and Samsung. The NYU Incubators receive government funding from the New York State Energy Research and Development (NYSERDA), New York City Economic Development Corporation (NYCEDC) and Empire State Development Corporation (ESDC).

About the NYU Polytechnic School of Engineering

The NYU Polytechnic School of Engineering dates to 1854, when the NYU School of Civil Engineering and Architecture as well as the Brooklyn Collegiate and Polytechnic Institute (widely known as Brooklyn Poly) were founded. Their successor institutions merged in January 2014 to create a comprehensive school of education and research in engineering and applied sciences, rooted in a tradition of invention, innovation and entrepreneurship. In addition to programs at its main campus in downtown Brooklyn, it is closely connected to engineering programs in NYU Abu Dhabi and NYU Shanghai, and it operates business incubators in downtown Manhattan and Brooklyn.
