TMO Key Part of Jamestown Properties’ Winning Effort to Win Approval of Chelsea Markets Expansion

In 2011, TMO was tapped by Jamestown Properties to assist in executing a public relations strategy to advocate for the expansion of Chelsea Market through the New York City process of ULURP. After eliciting tremendous support from the business community, the neighborhood, Market retailers, union labor, and unanimous editorial board support, the project passed the City Council on November 13, 2012, by a decision of 41-1.

Once complete, the seven-story expansion on 10th Avenue will house 1,200 new tech and media jobs and will be a staple in the tech haven “Silicon Alley”. The project will also finance maintenance of the beloved High Line Park through a donation of $12 million to the Park’s Improvement Fund. Other community benefits include a $5 million donation to an affordable housing fund and $1 million to start an internship program that will help train community residents for the high tech jobs in their neighborhood.

Everything starts with a conversation.
