DNAinfo: Smorgasburg and Brooklyn Flea Moving to Sunset Park in October

Brooklyn Flea and Smorgasburg will call Sunset Park’s Industry City home for the next six months.  The ever popular shopping and food destination will take approximately 50,000 square feet for their winter residency, which will run from October-March.  DNAinfo’s  Nikhita Venugopal covered the story.

As per the article:

Sunset Park is getting an artisanal stamp of approval as two of Brooklyn’s most popular food and shopping markets head to the neighborhood.

From October to March, Smorgasburg andBrooklyn Flea will be setting up shop atIndustry City in Sunset Park for a six-month residency inside the massive industrial complex.

The two markets will occupy a roughly 50,000 square-foot space on the second floor of an Industry City building at 241 37th St., organizers announced Monday.

The “winter residency” will take place on weekends from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. beginning Oct. 17 until March 27, 2016.

By Nov. 21, all of Brooklyn Flea and Smorgasburg’s outdoor markets will close for the season. Both markets will operate only out of Sunset Park for the winter and the summer markets will start up again next year, according to Eric Demby, who co-created the two markets.

Brooklyn Flea typically changes the location of the indoor winter market every couple of years, organizers said. Last season, it opened at Berg’n in Crown Heights.

The Saturday and Sunday Sunset Park location of Smorgasburg will feature about 40 local and regional food vendors as well as Industry City-based companies such as Home Frite, Blue Marble Ice Cream and Mofongo.

Smorgasburg recently announced a new Prospect Park location for its Sunday outdoor food market, which will run through Oct. 11.

Dozens of vendors, many of whom are local, will be selling their wares at Brooklyn Flea with everything from furniture, jewelry and vintage clothes to art, antiques, knick knacks and more.
