Media Training

Even the best messages fall short if not delivered effectively. Marino provides intensive, hands-on coaching, ensuring our clients' ability to comfortably engage the media and successfully communicate key company messages.

Many of our clients come to us fully versed in media interaction and simply desire polishing or preparation for specific press opportunities. Other clients are only just beginning to attract media exposure and desire a more thorough guide to navigating the media landscape. Therefore, Marino offers a wide range of media training and coaching services, including intensive, hands-on seminars.

Our media training programming includes the use of role-playing and video exercises, as well as more informal conversational sessions, to cover topics including:

Getting ready for an interview

  • Giving an interview
  • Types of interviews and types of interviewers
  • Messages and proof points
  • Transitional language and bridging
  • Transforming negatives into positives
  • Outlet categories
  • Effective verbal communication
  • Body language and affect

In terms of interview preparation more specifically, as a rule, Marino creates detailed briefing memos in anticipation of major interviews. These memos include:

  • Background on the media outlet
  • Background information on the particular interviewer/reporter
  • Samples of recent articles/broadcasts by the interviewer/reporter
  • Possible questions and suggested answers
  • Analysis of, and suggested answers to, potentially difficult or tricky questions
  • When needed, an outline of a follow-on Q&A role-playing session
